BT and Virgin Media to cut home phone termination charges

Communications regulator Ofcom has been working with BT, Virgin Media and TalkTalk to reduce early termination charges on their home phone deals.

Virgin Media, BT and TalkTalk are set to cut the early termination charges included on their home phone deals, it has been revealed.

The bundle providers have held a series of discussions with communications watchdog Ofcom after the regulator urged them to ensure any charges reflect the costs that the firms save by no longer offering the service.

It has been revealed that the charges vary from provider to provider, particularly due to the fact they all have different prices on their packages.

TalkTalk introduced the new charges on June 1st, while Virgin Media and BT will bring their own pricing into force at the start of October.

In a statement, Ofcom added that it expected other landline providers to apply the same principles and reduce their charges in the same manner.

Details of the changes have come after the watchdog proposed new rules to stop home phone users from being harassed by silent calls.
