British mobile network operator O2 could be close to announcing a new fixed line offering aimed at the SME and corporate markets, Mobile News reports.
Citing sources close to the cellco, the report claims that O2 may be close to acquiring a fixed line provider in order to help expand the range of services it can offer the SME and corporate sectors.
While O2 itself has denied the rumours, distributors and dealers linked with the operator claim to have been consulted on how a fixed line service might be integrated into their existing sales options.
One company that has been mentioned in relation to a possible deal with O2 is Hull-based Kingston Communications (KCom), which offers converged services across the UK through a range of brands, including Smart421, Eclipse Internet, Karoo and Affiniti; KCom has, however, also denied the speculation. O2 and KCom already have a partnership in place, allowing the latter to offer converged services including mobile voice and data offerings using O2’s network.
